About Us

My husband and I have had a lot happen in the last year or so...upon our most recent move (and of course the current economic situation) as we both began to job hunt. I began to realize the lack of choices in available positions out there (as I am sure most everyone has experienced).

For our four year anniversary we took a trip to the coast...we went camping. No computers, no phones, just the two of us relaxing. We were so brain dead and on "de-tox" from everything we've been experiencing  that we forgot to really even take pictures of our trip and anniversary. But, it was fantastic! I even heard my husband say "I'm great" one day when I asked if he was doing alright...can't tell you the last time I heard that.

Well, when we both returned to reality...reality sunk in. I took him lunch one day at work and told him that I just had this strong wish and desire to just have a little chunk of money that I could start SOMETHING with. A little business of my own. Not only to keep me busy during the day...and get my mind off of my haunts...but to be able to start a business, to "work" and have it be something I enjoy...PROJECTS. For the first time, instead of a response of "I do too" or "soon"...I heard "Then, do it!"  Really?! We really can't afford that right now..."Take $40 buy some fabric, and see what happens..."

And that's how it started! At the end of July 2010, I started my own business.

I went home started researching, setting things up...getting the business end of things somewhat squared away. Then, I took my $40 (which ended up becoming $60) and bought fabric and began to sew.

My husband and I love to refinish furniture and upcycle decor items. We quite often stumble upon finds we can't pass up.  Check out our sold orders to see what we've done so far, and our furniture inventory to see what we currently have on hand.

Well, after my son was born (day after Christmas 2012), I did my first craft booth.  It was a good experience though there was not much foot traffic.  It really helped me to re-evaluate.  I was somewhat new to Instagram at the time... and slowly over the summer I started to redirect and develop my new products.

Our shop has custom designed graphics on toss and shaped plush pillows, and baby and throw blankets, which are hand-crafted by me.

Currently, I am in the process of preparing for a Kickstarter campaign.  My goal is to convert our new products from "made-to-order" inventory to "ready-to-ship"/"on-hand" inventory.  In addition to "kick-starting" the redirection of my products, I am aiming to do a three day craft fair, Thanksgiving weekend.  Should my Kickstarter campaign be funded, it will be funding supplies for merchandise, and the profits can continually be reinvested into product and prep for additional craft fairs.  Also, please check out our campaign, and help us reach our goals!

Please spread the word! We have a Facebook Fan page, and you can Follow us on Twitter and Instagram. Don't forget to visit Sugar Spice and Nutmeg to see what's new!
